There was some "talk" on here regarding converting Microsoft Excel
files to FrameMaker. Interesting, as I had to do nearly this for the
TECHWR-L Rates and raves survey. Here's my technique for the conversion:
I had compiled the rates responses into Lotus 1-2-3, with each region
in a different sheet in the same file (RATES.123, Sheet A, Sheet B, etc.).
I found I could import the individual sheets into Lotus WordPro '97 and
then use WordPro to save the file as a MIF for FrameMaker. Once there, it
was easy to open the MIF in FrameMaker 5.
I don't use WordPro as a word processor (my wife does, however, for
her newspaper articles), but the cost of the Lotus Suite was well worth the
ability to manipulate file types and paid for itself in the first month.
