For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
The term "mission statement" has become buzz and
therefore causes twitches from folks tired of
its overuse or misuse... so much so that the meaning
is lost and negative connotations are attached
either fairly or unfairly.
Simple terms that do not go in and out of style
are best. Most often buzz comes from academics wishing
to coin a new phrase from existing meaning.
My personal pet peeve is "paradigm." D'oh! <shudder>
How does this effect tech. writing? Clean out the
buzz and simply state the obvious.
