I found a fun tool at http://www.altia.com (it seems to be Altia's flagship
product.) But it's more for people who document consumer electronics or
other hardware, and (so far as I can tell) you can only use it as a plug-in
to Netscape, so it's limited to those who put their documentation on
intranets or on the Web.

The software is specifically designed to produce demos in which the user can
"manipulate" an object - the examples given include an ATM machine and a
camera. The user has to have the plug-in to do this, but it's a quick
download.

Obviously, this uses lots of existing technologies, but so far as I can tell,
the tool simplifies creating this kind of "virtual" example.

Maybe there's lots more stuff like this out there, but I haven't encountered
any. What would be really neat* is if they could compile it to work in an
on-line HLP file.
