Bonnie:
Yeah, I've had some experience with CTS. Had the surgery six years ago in
my right hand. (It was successful) At the time, I was working in a
factory, but have since graduated form college and am working as a tech
writer. The typing and mousework do affect my hand, but I've found some
things that help.
I use wrist braces to sleep in, learned to sleep on my back, take vitamin
E and B12 daily, use NSAIDs sparingly because I have problems with my
stomach when I take a lot of them. I was taking Feldene for a while, but
couldn't tolerate it. Finally settled on 800 mg ibuprophin. It's
prescription strength, and I don't take it daily, only when I'm having
problems.
I also lowered my typing surface, and am using 2 writs rests, stacked on
top of each other. The height is about 1 1/2", or just under that. I try
to alternate my use, take a regular break every hour or so - just stop
typing/mousing--do something else for a few minutes. Instead of doing all
my off-keyboard work at one time, I break it up into little segments to
give my hands frequent short breaks. It took a little reorganizing, but
was worth the effort. Hope something here helps.

Oh, rats! I've evidently got the early stages of carpal tunnel syndrome.
It appears to be the mouse that is causing it, and not typing or piano
playing, but I've got pain on the underside of my wrist.
(snip)
Anybody have experience with this syndrome? I've been doing research on
the net just now, in preparation for getting off the computer and giving
my hand a rest for a while, but I thought I'd just ask and check in
occasionally to see if anyone has any ideas or recommendations.
