Subject:Overdue thanks on Frame and Word From:"Marie C. Paretti" <mparetti -at- RRINC -dot- COM> Date:Mon, 8 Sep 1997 14:13:03 -0400
Thanks to everyone who responded to my question about Word Macros. *If* I
stay with Word, I think there are some macros I need to set up. The whole
Frame/Word decision is a bit up in the air, though, since Adobe told me
this morning that their demo/evaluation CD sampler is on backorder
(something about switching manufacturers), so I can't get my hands on a
copy of 5.5 to be sure. Even though I'm convinced that Frame is a better
option given our goals and needs, I'm hesitant to order it without putting
my grubby little hands on a copy first.
And thanks as well to everyone who repsonded by my questions about the
Frame/HTML conversions. Since we moved the discussion on-line, I skipped
my plan to summarize responses, but the gist of seems to be that most
people are comfortable porting info from Frame to on-line help evironments
-- nothing too burdensome, the usual caveats about the differences between
written docs and on-line help, etc. -- and that as far as 5.5 goes with
the HoTaMaLe stuff incorporated in, it's almost too early to tell. The
mechanism is there and it works if you don't demand *too* much from it.
And now I've got to bury my head back into my writing -- though I keep
forgetting whether I'm finishing my dissertation (in English Lit, on
contemporary poetry) or writing software Users' Guides. Which means, of
course, that if I ever find some spare time, I'm sure I have *something* to
say about last week's discussion of academic vs. tech writing careers. I
just can't remember what it is.
