Yep I've had that problem too. Here's what worked for me:
Before you "print" to Acrobat Distiller, check the "printer properties"
(at least that's what it's called using Word under WindowsNT: choose
File, then Print, then Properties). Under the "Advanced" tab, find the
"Document Options", and then under that "PostScript Options". (Whew)
Make sure the setting "Compress bitmaps" is set to "<No>",
and "Send CTRL-D Before Each Job" is "<Yes>".
Choose OK, which returns you to the Word print dialog.
One more thing: these settings are volatile. They are not controlled by
Word but by the Windows Network Operating Software (and other users).
So check them every time you print to Acrobat Distiller (or just a
network printer for that matter).
If this doesn't do the job, you should make sure you have the correct
(latest) driver for your printer.
