RE: scanners/Philip Hellerman
For the purposes of an intranet, scanning legacy documents with a desktop
scanner may not be the correct way to go, especially if there are hundreds of
documents.
My recommendation:
1. If the number of documents is high, consider an outside vendor with high
speed scanning equipment.
2. There is no such thing as scanning into MS/Word format. Bypass Word and take
a look at Adobe Acrobat.
3. Check out Imaging Magazine (www.imagingmagazine.com). They cover document
management solutions for business.
They have reviewed desktop scanning equipment, but also cover high speed
duplexing scanners and software to access the images.
4. If a page-at-a-time desktop scanner seems right for the task afterall, I
recommend the Umax machines. Nice price, Adobe software bundles and better than
average imaging.
