At the ISTC conference earlier this year one of the main themes was
"knowledge management" and the tech writer. While there will be a lot of
"free" information around the art is getting the RIGHT information to the
RIGHT people. In some cases it may be a question of information overload -
all these wonderful inter/intranet system but what do we put on them? What
from our pool of information is really of use to us? The premise proposed
was that tech writers are ideally placed for the role of "Knowledge
Managers" - after all, what do we do but sort the chaff from the wheat and
present it in an appropriate manner for a specified audience?
