a lot of mail software provides a "out of the office" function, but doesn't
provide an
easy way to set filters to prevent sending responses to folks, if any. (i
have the mailing lists
in that file so no one should have gotten anything from me..but then i
haven't read the
last couple weeks worth of stuff yet either...)

hopefully no one got slaughtered by the system here (although there sure
was a lot of
spam received over the last couple of weeks), since it's keyed to source
addresses and
only will send 1 reply per source address minus those in the "no out of
office reply" list.

certainly, i've seen the worst that can happen when someone's on a list on
a per message
basis and doesn't have the out of office reply filtered -- the list goes
into positive
feedback as the "out of the office" messages come back from the list server
causing another
out of office message until the capacity of the system at one end or the
other is reached.

regards,

bill n.
