I use Paint Shop Pro's 'Batch Conversion' or GraphicConvertor's 'Convert
more'.
These functions allow you convert many bitmaps to GIF/JPEG format.
Paint Shop Pro is a software for Windows and GraphicConvertor is a software
for Mac.
