Following the highly successful first edition in 1994-
now used extensively by the Australian pharmaceutical
industry-the Pharmaceutical Education Program of the
Department of Health and Family Services commissioned
the Communication Research Institute of Australia to
develop this second edition with the collaboration of industry
and consumer groups.
It contains many new examples based on extensive usability testing.
It also has a completely rewritten chapter on how to test the
usability of consumer medicines information. This chapter was
prepared by David Rogers of the Communication Research Institute
of Australia, based on a highly successful series of workshops which
David ran for the Australian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association.
About the Institute
The Communication Research Institute of Australia is an independent,
non-government, not-for-profit organisation, with no affiliation to any
political, industrial or social organisations.
It was established in the mid eighties in order to do research and training
that would help industry and government improve the quality of their
communication with the public.
The Institute is an internationally regarded centre of excellence and is
routinely invited by industry, government, and consultants to develop best
practice methods in communication, and to publish the results for
wide-scale use.
