Good Monday Morning (well, it's still morning here in Chicagoland)!

As I'm working on yet another software user guide, I'm thinking about
headers and footers and wondering what others think about this. Is there
something written or does anybody have an opinion about which location is
better for date, page number, book title, section title, etc. in
user/administration guides/manuals (whatever you want to call them)? I
prefer to put everything in a footer (maybe it's my astigmatism, but too
much "stuff" at the top distracts me), with page numbers on the outer
corners. What do you think? And what do you put in your headers/footers?
Does it vary by document type?
