I am posting this question for a co-worker. She is looking for help and
advise on how to correct this problem. She would also like to know
how to contact the MSWord listserv.

http://www.listserv.net/catalist.html .

The problem(s) stem around a template that we are using to create all
documentation that will untimately be accessed thoughtout the
company. It seems that a file is put into a shared directory, but the
viewed and printed output differ. Such as numbered lists in table cells
are being renumbered. My version is 1, 2, 3, then 1, 2, 3 but when Chris
opens the same file she gets 1, 2, 3, then 4, 5, 6. Sometimes the style
does not keep proper spacing, white space, and margins. It's a real
mess and it will only get worse as we create more documentation that
needs to be shared.
----------------
Word's autonumbering "feature" is so buggy that I no longer attempt to
use it. As for the display/printing problems:
1) Verify from each PC that the doc is attached to the same copy of the
template file.
2) Make sure the same printer driver is being used in both instances. I
think this is the most common cause of such problems.
3) Try changing the view magnification. I have docs that are skewed at
100% (for example, a graphic that is supposed to be on the bottom of a
page appears at the top of the next page. The pagination of a whole
chapter can be changed. The document prints wrong, too, because Word
sends to the printer what it "sees" on the screen. Viewing at 99%
corrects the problem, which is caused by a faulty rounding-off
algorithm.
4) Get FrameMaker. :-)
