It is not unusual in the high-tech world for managers to make significantly
less than those they manage. Obviously, if someone is hired to do the job you
do and they have the same education as you, the same experience, the same
qualifications, and they are hired in at a lot more money, there's a problem.
Salaries are misleading; many high-tech employees receive bonuses, stock
options, and other non-paycheck goodies.
