If you have mastered PageMaker on your own, RoboHelp should certainly
not be a problem for you. I was in the same situation about three
years ago, and had very little problems putting RoboHelp to work. The
few questions I had were answered speedily by Blue Sky tech support.

There are numerous ways to skin this cat (and I'm sure you'll hear
about many of them), but if you're publishing for the PC market, and
need to have print, WinHelp and web-compatible output, you can do
this:

* Develop your source document in PageMaker, formatted for print

* Export the print doc from PageMaker as RTF

* Open RTF files with RoboHelp/Word, create WinHelp files

* Open WinHelp files with RoboHTML, create HTML Help files

* Open the WinHelp files with Blue Sky's WebHelp, and convert to
inter/intranet use.

So, load up RoboHelp on the sly, and get to work. When you're up to
speed, tell your boss you went the extra mile and learned it anyway,
and now have a means to make everyone happy.

I don't know much about RoboHelp or WinHelp or any of the other
tools that get discussed on the list. My boss (who wants to develop my
HTML/online and context sensitive help skills) has led me to believe
that RoboHelp (which we have a copy of) has a steep learning curve and
that he wants me to be writing and not learning a new tool.

I have another boss who wants us to have nice printed docs; he
believes these to be just as important as the web version we will
have. I want to do both - and I want a tool that will let me do both
with minimal frustration (is there such a thing?).

I think that RoboHelp (or some other tool) is probably the way to go -
convincing my boss to let me learn it (spend company time and $ to do
so) is quite another.
