I find it interesting that so many people are making so much more than
the medians listed in STC surveys and many others that I've seen. They
list hourly wages somewhere around $23/hour. Keep in mind that that is
an overall survey covering new hires as well as seasoned professionals.
Location also has a great deal to do with how much you are paid. Check
out one of the salary calculators on the web. I just ran my salary of
$32000( I hear the outrage already) here in Minneapolis to move to LA
and I would need to make $43054 to maintain my standard of living.
That's a pretty big margin to be working with. When you couple all
these factors together, he may be underpaid, but not by 4 or 5 times as
several people indicate. I agree he needs to ask for a raise but not to
$40 or $50 an hour. He needs to keep his job, not end up in the
unemployment line after being fired for asking for the moon.
