Actually "Print on Demand" is a catch phrase that Xerox uses to promote
sales of their Docutech, and this feature is used at McMaster University
with a great number of their textbooks. I believe McMaster has worked out
something with the publisher to allow them to do this. That allows
McMaster to reduce the amount of textbooks kept in inventory, saving space,
redundancy, etc. They print only the number that is needed, but can always
go back and print a few more. Some government agencies in Canada are now
doing this as well.
