Hope:
I am slowly but surely setting up a telecommuting arrangement, but the
key word is "slowly."

In my case, telecommuting is a side-effect of freelancing. I have had
numerous jobs and have made a lot of professional contacts.
Occasionally a person from my past calls me from Kansas or New York or
Czech Rebublic (really!) and says something like, "Hey, can you
convert this manual to RoboHelp?" or "Can you help me with this
business proposal?" and I say, "Sure!" and work like mad in the
evenings and weekends to prepare a formal project plan/proposal, write
up some contracts, exercise the fax machine, arrange the technical
details, and finally (whew!) do the project. This is totally done via
email and telephone...but it is on top of my normal 8-to-5 job. And
sometimes I do the work for free.

I am confident that after a few more years, I could become a full-time
telecommuting contractor freelancer (there's a job title!), but it
will not be an overnight transformation.

Good luck,
Matt
