From a software engineering perspective, localization can be considered a
process of translating or customizing an existing software product to
accommodate the needs of a particular culture. This typically involves not
only translating documentation but also software features. This should not
be confused with internationalization or globalization of a product which is
the process of engineering a product to make localization easier.

Localization loosely covers the following areas, depending on who
you
ask:

* preparing the text for translation, usually in several langauges,
keeping in mind issues translation issues (i.e. standard English,
eliminating jargon, etc.)
* translating for specific markets (i.e. Spanish for Spain, Mexico,
or
other South American countries)
* developing systems that facilitate production of these
translations

What is the name of the process for preparing a text for
translation? Is
this what localization means?

Thanks!

Leonard
