Ed Klopfenstein asked about XML in Word.

For an excellent review of XML in the not yet released Office 9,
read "The XML Scoop on Office 9", by Mark Walter and Liora
Alshuler on the XML.COM website.

http://www.xml.com/xml/pub/SeyboldReport/ipx980603.html

I strongly recommend that all techwhirlers read the article, if only for
a defense against managers with the "if it's in Word, that's what we
must do" mentality.

Here's a quote from the article which sums it up:

"those looking for Microsoft to address structured editing can't help
but be disappointed. Instead of structured documents, the emphasis
for Office 9 will be on making it easier to publish Word, Powerpoint
and Excel documents on the Web."
