Subject:Summary: screen shots with text From:"Nickel, Joyce" <jnickel -at- PAC -dot- BLUECROSS -dot- CA> Date:Wed, 5 Aug 1998 13:03:10 -0700
Thank you to everyone who responded to my question on whether I should
include screen shots with the steps, or write the steps as a numbered
list with the screen shots at the end. I was concerned with the document
size, and with losing the effect of the numbered steps.
I was overwhelmed with the response - over 30 people gave me their
opinions, and all the ideas were excellent.
To summarize:
Votes for putting the screen shots at the end: zero. (Thanks, you
clearly answered that question).
Some of the tips were:
- Some form of side-by-side layout, such as illustrations on the left
page and the text on the right page, or using two columns.
- Reduce the size of the screen shots (make them smaller, or crop and
use only the necessary area).
- Eliminate the captions.
- Use fewer illustrations, or fewer steps.
- Make the numbers large, and place them outside of the margin.
I plan to use many of your ideas. I'm also going to eliminate
unnecessary words since this list seems to have given the okay to using
> arrows!
Thanks again for all your help. This list is great.
