Jason Willebeek-LeMair said (rather astutely)

...if you go back to the original "do not grow" post, I believe the
poster stated that "don't try....not unless they're really eager for it
AND willing to take some classes...Typists do not grow into technical
writers," which I agree with completely.

So, before we all pounce on the original poster... realize that the poster was saying that, just because they can type, they are not automatically in the career path for TWing...

Please do not misunderstand my intention with *my* post. I don't know about the others, but I wasn't *specifically* taking a jab at the original poster, I'm just trying to get some enlightenment into some people who seem to close their eyes to the facts.

Fact 1:
with alot of work and determinaton to succeed, anyone can learn the *mechanics* of writing. (Even hopelessly dyslexic people like me - surprised you, didn't I?)

Fact 2:
not everyone who knows *how* to write writes well (One of my college professors taught grammar, and couldn't string comments together when grading papers)

Fact 3:
you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him think (In other words, you can give a person every tool they could ever need-including a first-rate education and techwriting certification {if it existed} and they may never be good at writing engineering specs, but they may be able to write a user manual for software that blows mine out of the water.)

I'm sure there are many more facts floating in my head, but at the risk of ranting, I'm going to go to lunch.
