Word does have an IF field that you could use for conditional text. I
have seen explanations of how to do this, although I've never tried it
myself.

After using Frame for 3 months in my new job, I have really mixed
feelings about. It's really good for assembling large documnets and
books from multiple files but Word has it beat hands down for ease of
use in the writing and editing  department. And I miss Word's macro
language.

What I've found is that any time I save time in Frame with its
document assembly features is used up by the lack of drag and drop,
outlining, and macros. 

I'm doing some document conversion (HTML to Frame) using Word as the
itermediate step as Frame doesn't import HTML (another big problem for
me).  I do most of my editing in Word before the final conversion
because it's twice as fast to do it there as in Frame. Editing in
Frame after working with Word feels like stepping back to computing a
la 1993.
