This is an old debate. A degree will often get you in the door. A degree
with a proven ability in tech writing will get you in almost any door.
Proven ability without a degree with get you in some doors, especially if
you have good show and tell.

Once you're in the door, they usually look at what you can do and how
valuable you are to them, regardless of the degree.

That's my opinion.
