The abbreviations "kHz" and "MHz" are correct because they conform to the
long accepted international metric standard described in ANSI/IEEE Std
268-1992, "American National Standard for Metric Practice".

Abstract from the title page: "Guidance for the application of the
modernized metric system in the United States is given.  Known as the
International System of Units (abbreviated SI), the system is intended as a
basis for worldwide standardization measurement units.  Information is
included on SI, a limited list of non-SI units recognized for use with SI
units, and a list of conversion factors from non-SI to SI units, together
with general guidelines on proper style and usage."

(ANSI is the American National Standards Institute and IEEE is the
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.)

Footnote: I believe that this standard is now called ANSI/IEEE/ASTM SI
10-97 because the American Society of Testing and Materials has merged
their publication on the metric standard with the ANSI/IEEE one.
