Would that this were the case! Every telecommuting job I've nailed has had a
'prove it to me' period. It's like nobody trusts the experience of any other
company.

Well, that's not quite the case. Some places, like Sun, know how to recognize
a seasoned pro and are willing to let that kind of contractor work off-site
when circumstances allow. Oracles lets it happen sometimes too. But a lot of
other companies are really dubious about letting contractors work remotely.
