It's an autocorrect thing. If you type any of the standard "face" key
combinations (such as :-) or :) ), Word 97's default autocorrect
entries replace them with the corresponding Wingding.
You probably typed a colon before the parenthesis.
You can get rid of these by going into Tools|Autocorrect and deleting
the appropriate entries -- they should be near the top of the list.
