Luisa Lago asked:

Has anyone had experience writing course materials/documentation for
the
Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) or MSCE exams? I've checked
the
Microsoft site among others, but I can't seem to find the definitive
answer about requirements for certification, or a selection of
sample
tests. In fact, some of the exams don't even exist yet, though there
seem to be a lot of training centres and books out there that claim
to
be "Microsoft certified". Any ideas?

Assuming that you intend to produce Microsoft-approved materials, then the
following would apply:
* The organization that delivers the materials must be Microsoft
Authorized Technical Education Centers (Microsoft CTECs) or Microsoft
Authorized Academic Training Program (AATP) institutions. Among other
requirements, the organization needs a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) on
staff.
* A CTEC is a limited-purpose training center. Its courses range from
1/2 day to several days of intensive training, for a steep price. [
editorial comment: steep, but usually worth it - cel ]
* An AATP is a recognized academic institution which offers computer
education as a part of its curriculum. Its courses are usually run for a
quarter or semester, like any other class. Its fees are more like normal
tuition.
* The individuals who deliver the materials must be Microsoft
Certified Trainers
* If you intend to develop materials only, your organization would
still need to be a CTEC or an AATP.

If you're producing course materials e.g., books, your authorized
organization would work out the Microsoft seal of approval with Microsoft.

This information actually is on the MS web site
http://www.microsoft.com/mcp/mktg/mct.htm
<http://www.microsoft.com/mcp/mktg/mct.htm> , but it is obscure and hard to
find. Considering the source, that's not hard to understand.

BTW, students expect to learn the subject matter AND be able to pass the
certification exam. Therefore, you'll have to develop knack for writing
ambiguous, confusing items for the practice exams. Anyone who has taken a
Microsoft Certification exam can appreciate this concept.
