Here is a summary of the responses I received on font suggestions:
Sans Serif (Arial) is the preferred font for titles and headings. Serif (Times Roman or Book Antigua 11pt) is the preferred font for body text. Most writers are using the bold version of their body text for GUI references, notes, and cautions; a minority are using a font different from their body text (Courier or Bold Arial). Everyone is using Arial 9 pt for online help. The overwhelming majority prefers to use the least amount of fonts as possible. One respondent reasoned that "if you use too many fonts, the reader's eye doesn't know where to go".
Thank you to everyone who responded!
