Hi everyone,

I have a query regarding the amount of different job titles or job
functions that seem to come under the umbrella term ?technical
writing?.

Just recently there was a discussion on this list comparing marketing
writing with technical writing. I?m a newbie (ok I admit it) and I?m
particularly interested in documenting policies and procedures for
companies/government departments. I?d like to ask firstly, is this type
of job what I have seen called ?business writing??

Secondly, how different is it in theory and practice doing ?business?
writing as opposed to more ?technical? writing (e.g. documenting a
software program)?

Are there particular skills (including ability to use certain types of
software applications) that are required to become a specialist in
business documentation?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much for your time!

Regards,

Geoff
