First, here's our job:
TECHNICAL WRITER. 2-5 years experience developing online Help for Windows
applications. BA required. RoboHelp experience a plus. Work in
insurance/financial planning industry a plus. Permanent, onsite job.
Competitive benefits. Send resume and salary requirements to
lorraine -at- ez-data -dot- com, fax to (626) 585-3533, mail to L. Kiewiet, E-Z Data,
Inc., 918 E. Green St., Pasadena, CA 91106.

There are many interesting openings in the tech writing now! I sometimes
wish I had the inclination to waste 10 hours a week sitting in my car--but
I don't, so I work 4 miles from home.

With regard to "Too Many Jobs". We have been advertising on and off since
September. Our ads specifically state either "online Help experience" or
"RoboHelp experience" required. You would not believe the number of resumes
I have received with no hint of either. All this tells me is that the
applicant cannot read, is careless, doesn't care about how I describe a
job, or all of the above.

We do not have a human resources department, so I have to do all the
checking, phoning, and interviewing. Our company will not use headhunters,
or pay any finders fee. In the last month, I've spent more time wearing my
human resources hat than I have my technical writer hat.
We advertised on the Monster Board, STC national employment Web page, local
STC chapter, Los Angeles Times, and our own Web site. STC produced the best
results, followed by the L.A. Times.
