I believe your experience is typical of the business climate today. Years ago, when personnel departments had to type out letters one at a time on a typewriter, it seemed you always got a response, even if it was negative. I'm sure the same social graces could be exercised today at a fraction of the cost, but down sizing, right sizing, cost containment, and other such bottom line measures seem to take priority. If it isn't related to producing sales it is regarded as an unnecessary expense.
