Susan,

In addition to Bill's suggestions, a couple of additional observations:

* Every word processor uses a different word count algorithm. Even
different versions of MS Word or MS Word/Mac vs. WinWord will give you
different word counts. If your translator uses a different word processor
than you do, they will get a different word count.

* Although you do not specify this in your original post, I am assume your
translator is reporting higher word counts in the English source material
and not in the translated text. As you know, translated texts tend to be
longer than the English original. Depending on the language, the word count
can 15-20% higher.
