Ahhh, yes - the freedom. Got to agree with you there Tracey. That is what
truly makes contracting worth it. You generally do not make more money, you
have to learn stuff really quickly, and the taxes are a pain; but you can't
beat that freedom. Moreover you can often pick and choose your work. If a
client is really horrible - just get the job done and leave. You're almost
always a few weeks away from something new. I love that.
Also, you're always just a few weeks away from being free of idiots. When you
wind up with some micromanaging twerp who torments you night and day, you can
always walk out at the end of the contract. Ahhh, that is also really nice. I
like being free of idiots.
Idiot-free for 5 years and loving it!
Of course - you could start your own consulting company, like I did and become
a prisoner of a new type. That's another story.
