Can anyone direct me to information on the usefulness/effectiveness of
including graphics in software help systems. Research-based information
as well as anecdotal evidence will be appreciated.

The November 1998 issue of the STC's Technical Communication journal did a cover
story titled "Visulizing Information." I've read the article, and it addresses
some of these issues.
