Could you show us what the field codes looks like? (press Alt-F9 to view
the codes. The Table of Contents field will look something like {TOC \o
"1-3"}. Can you tell us exactly?

Also, examine the Format | Styles box and examine the styles named TOC 1,
TOC 2, etc. These are the styles that appear in the table of contents, not
the body of the document. Do these styles have Numbering?

Finally, are you the Jennifer O'Neill who was in Summer of '42?

Hi there,

Were having trouble with a Word97 manual and its table of contents.
We're using the Heading styles to automatically generate the TOC and all
the headings are numbered. Yet when we generate the TOC only a few of
the entries have their numbering. Also you can't jump to the relevant
page just by clicking hte mouse on the page number (where the hand
symbol appears). The manual is around 80 pages long with few graphics.
How do we get the heading numbering to appear in the TOC? Any idea
what's wrong? The Microsoft helpdesk couldn't help. Thanks.
