Thank you to those of you who responded. Since Windows 95 and
Windows 98 are not trademarks (only Windows and Windows NT are),
the decision about usage pretty much depends on the context and
on the writer's preferences. Here are a few options:

1) Not use the / at all. Use Windows 95 and (or) 98 instead.
2) Use the / in the heading and the complete text in the first
sentence (If you are running Windows 95 or Windows 98, ...).
2) Use Windows 9x to include both OSs.
