Archie,
You're just out of practice. Tech writing and creative writing are very
different styles of writing. When you've been working in one for an
extended period of time, it's just gonna take a little 'rebooting of the
brain' to shift into the other style.
If you're really stuck on finding topic material for the articles, start
picking your co-workers brains more. Find someone you know gets really
enthusiastic about what he does and go chat with him for awhile. Something
will be sure to surface (*grin*).
