STC usually provides a useful fill-in-the-blank proposal for conference
attendance in the same issue of Intercom that has the preliminary
schedule and the sign-up forms. If they don't do it this year, the did
it last year, so rummage around in the old issues or ask a friend to.
(I thought it might be on the web, but I couldn't find it.)
Many companies pay willingly if you're presenting. It's too late this
year to take that approach (submissions were due 8/1), but it may get you
to next year's.
