TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Our project team is considering switching from an online help system
(RoboHELP) to an online manual using PDFs. Because the users are not
technical and prefer a book format, we think an online guide would be a good
solution. (Despite the training class, the feedback is that nobody uses the
online help. It's just one more software they need to learn how to use.)
> The only drawback with an online manual (created in FrameMaker) is that
> there would be nothing equivalent to a Find or Search tab. At least, I
> don't know of one. Of course, the toc and Index would have links, but it's
> not the same.
> Do you know if one can do a search with PDFs? Please let me know a.s.a.p.
> if you do! (By the way, the PDF manual would be included on the CD as well
> as posted on the site.)
