Chaim,
Shlomo has already replied to your message. My answer is pretty much along
the same lines, namely that all the things you mentioned are supported by
PDF.
1) Hyperlinks should be done in color (similar to Internet pages)
In our PDF-files, links are blue and underlined, because
this is internet standard. (To achieve this, the formatting
has to be applied in the source document; in Framemaker and
in Word, you would normally use styles to apply this formatt-
ing more or less automatically.)
2) Word search capability for the manuals
There's two ways of finding information in PDF files:
a) The Find command searches the file that is currently
open for the specified word or string (sequential search);
b) The Search command searches an index for the specified
word or expression; the index is created using Acrobat
Catalog
Notes: The search command is not available in the basic
version of Acrobat Reader, but requires the free Search
plug-in; the Search command is not available for PDF-files
on web servers.
3) Under Acrobat 4, you can change the pagination of PDF-files
using the command Document > Number Pages. For example, you
can define no page numbers for Title and Copyright, Roman
page numbers for front matter, and arabic page numbers for
the body of the manual; this makes it a lot easier to navigate
the pages of PDF files via their numbers. Shlomo's message
contains information on applying these page labels auto-
matically during PDF conversion.
