I like the AECMA Simplified English definitions:
DANGER: Injury or death WILL occur if the instructions are not followed.
WARNING: Injury or death is possible if the instructions are not obeyed.
CAUTION: Damage to equipment is possible.
NOTES: Notes are added to give more information, usually in a procedure.
