previous or incumbent?

If Company A is working on a contract currently, it is the incumbent. Correct?

If Company A is working on a contract, and Company B takes over on
(say) January 1, on January 2 Company A is the 'previous contractor',
while B becomes 'incumbent'. Correct?

When B is talking about how it will deal with A after the contract is
awarded to B, does B refer to A as the 'incumbent' or the 'previous'
contractor? For instance: "We (B) will communicate rapidly with the
[incumbent/previous] contractor as soon as the contract is awarded to
us."

I knwo this must be much simpler than I'm making it out to be. Blame
it on Friday...
