serif and sans-serif font sizes

Seems to me that if you need to mix fonts it's usually because you
want to make the text stand out in some way--such as "this is a UI
element." Such being the case, why would you want to prevent the other
font from being easily visible?

If you're not deliberately trying to call attention to words that are
in the other font, I would agree with everyone else and say not to use
a different font at all.
