Please remember that if you are not originally from a mountainous
region, snow on the roads is usually seen as a nuisance rather than as
a potential killer.

I almost got into trouble with this the first time I went to
Switzerland, although in my case it was with footwear rather than
driving conditions. A bunch of us decided to go from Geneva up to
Gruyere. I wasn't familiar with the area, so I had no idea that
Gruyere was several hundred meters higher in altitude than
Geneva--since Geneva had no snow, it never occurred to me that there
might be snow where we were going. So I wore my sneakers. Baaad
idea....
