Kevin,

In Outlook 2003, if you go to the classic three-pane Inbox view, where
the middle pane lists your Inbox messages, you can click on the
columns at the top to set them as "Arranged by: Date" and "Newest On
Top."

Outlook will then show you your messages in "Today, Yesterday,
Sunday..." order automatically. "View by date" is a predefined group
view, and I cannot find any setting that would alter it. Search in
Outlook Help for the phrase "inbox arranged by date" and you'll find
the topic, "Arrange your Inbox messages using predefined groups," that
describes this.
