Push for Simpler Spelling

My 1856 Webster's Unabridged has a list of words and the ways about
five different dictionaries of the 1800s and late 1700s spelled them.
Spelling was definitely more fluid 200 years ago. It's fascinating to see
the variations. I'm at work so I can't quote any of the examples, but if
your library has a 1st edition Webster's Unabridged you should be able to
find it in the front material.

Who was it, President Jackson maybe, that said "It's a poor mind that can
think of only one way to spell a word."
