Monospace font or not for directory and file names

Another research question.  Actually two.

Are many of you dropping the use of monospace font for directory and 
file names?

And a follow-on question -- if not, are you applying italics for 
variable portions of the names on top of the monspace font or are you 
using straight italics (sans the monospace)?  I assume that if you're 
using straight italics for variables in code, you're using the same 
convention for variables in directory and file names.  Unless you've 
dropped the monospace font for these, of course.
