I've worked for companies that did this sort of checking. As far as I know we only ever booted one candidate from our list due to the content of their web site, but that was before MySpace existed....
<shrug> The Internet is not private, and if it's not quite forever it can be shockingly persistent. It's just common sense to never put your name on something you would be embarassed to show to your boss, your spouse, or anyone else, because once it's out there, you have no control at all over where it goes.
Just my .02, of course.
