The Good Side of Word

Troubleshooting is *MUCH* more fun when performed
within a logical framework on a reasonably deterministic
system, and Word is not either of those in my book.

I've learned and used more than 14 different versions
of Word on Mac and PC (going all the way back to v1.0
on the first generation Mac, which I used for my first
formal tech writing contract), and the only version I
will still use by choice is Word 95. That was the last
deterministic version (Word 97 had major voodoo
and it's been mostly downhill ever since) and the last
one that used the Word Basic macro language (which
I could make sing and dance) rather than the "universal
solution" VBA language, which still drives me completely
crazy. At this point I have to use Word 2003 for some
things, but if possible I convert to FrameMaker at the
first opportunity.

Just my personal opinion. I know some people love
Word and can't get the handle of the FrameMaker
document model.
